Around 95% of the materials in every Cottage Life build are NZ-sourced, and every cottage is LBP supervised and built to the NZ Building Code.

Have questions about our cottages? Here are a few of the things we're most often asked.

What's included in the price of a cottage?
Each cottage price includes the completed structure with kitchen or kitchenette, bathroom, electrical fitout, plumbing fitout, insulation, double-glazed joinery, flooring and exterior cladding. Delivery, foundation preparation and site service connections are quoted separately, as these vary depending on your location and site requirements. Can I customise my cottage?
Yes — we offer a range of customisation options. From selecting your preferred interior finishes and colour palette, to adding a verandah or adjusting a floor plan, we can work with you to create a cottage that suits your needs. Get in touch to discuss your ideas and we'll let you know what's possible for your chosen model.
Do I need building consent for a granny flat?
From 15 January 2026, certain self-contained granny flats up to 70m² may be built without a building consent, provided the build meets the Building Code and is carried out by licensed building practitioners. Eligibility depends on your specific site and the applicable rules. All Cottage Life cottages are built and supervised by Licensed Building Practitioners. We recommend confirming your site's requirements before proceeding. Read our consent information page for more detail.
How does delivery and installation work?
Once your cottage is complete, it's transported to your property and placed on your prepared foundation using a Hiab (crane truck). We'll assess your site access during the quoting process and confirm requirements. Service connections (power, water, drainage) are carried out separately by licensed trades and are not included in the cottage price. We'll walk you through everything at handover.
